Effective January 1, 2023, UNUM provides Basic Term Life and Supplement Life Insurance for District employees.

BASIC TERM LIFE

  • Premiums for $25,000 of coverage are paid by the District ($20,000 of coverage for Bus Operators)
  • Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) matches Basic Life coverage amount and is automatically included with Basic Life coverage
  • All amounts are guaranteed. Evidence of Insurability (EOI) is not required

SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE

  • May be purchased in $10,000 increments up to the lesser of 5 times annual earnings or $250,000
  • Guaranteed Issue coverage amount of $150,000 for New Hires

SPOUSE/DOMESTIC PARTNER TERM LIFE

  • Available in increments of $5,000 up to a maximum of $150,000 of coverage
  • Spouse/Domestic Partner coverage amount must be less than or equal to Employee's coverage amount
  • Guaranteed Issue coverage amount of $50,000 for New Hires

CHILD TERM LIFE

  • Available for eligible children in $2,000 increments up to a maximum of $10,000 of coverage 
  • Eligible child is 14 days to 19 years or up to 25 years if a full-time student at an accredited postsecondary school (dependents age 14 days up to 6 months are provided $500). Coverage for disabled children may be continued beyond maximum age
  • Child(ren)'s coverage amount must be less than or equal to Employee's coverage amount

Guaranteed Issue is only available to employees the first 30-days after initial employment. After that, EOI is required for all requested Life Insurance amounts.
